Superior Battery Manufacturing, located in Russell Springs, Kentucky, opened its doors in 1983 as the Starting, Lighting, Ignition industry was experiencing a reduction in American battery manufacturers — from 300 to fewer than 30 today. Continued investments in the company's 186,000-square-foot facility, its employee base, technology, and research have helped Superior achieve incredible growth and success in product innovation, despite industry changes.

Superior manufactures batteries in a variety of categories, including automotive, commercial, marine and RV, lawn and garden, and golf car. While continuing to offer its custom label program for regional battery distributors and original equipment manufacturers, Superior introduced its own brand in 1992, Superlex Premium Power Batteries. Both lines feature the company's revolutionary PFX Technology, which debuted in 2012.

PFX is a unique advancement in flooded cell battery technology, utilized by no other manufacturer. Extremely clean, highly refined lead and continuous paste mixing technology work with other elements — including expanded grids, micro-process controlled curing, high-performance separators and polyfiber mats — to deliver maximum performance. Through an in-house, quality-controlled process, Superior refines the lead alloy used in its batteries, establishing the right chemical composition to increase battery life.

Superior has earned ISO 9001-2002 and TS16949 certifications from the International Automotive Task Force, and has worked tirelessly to ensure PFX is a zero-landfill manufacturing process.
